Sophia Liu

I'm a fourth-year undergraduate at UC Berkeley studying computer science. I conduct human-computer interaction research on agentic browsing and search, social networks, knowledge representation, and user agency at the Berkeley Institute of Design Lab, advised by Bjoern Hartmann and Shm Almeda. Previously, I studied pro-democratic AI use in online communities at the CMU HCII, advised by Ken Holstein, Haiyi Zhu, and Tzu-Sheng Kuo.

I'm invested in how individuals, communities, and collectives can make sense of the world, create, and think better together, and how our AI, collaborative, and connected tools can get us there. I'll be tackling this at Gigi, a Sequoia and Khosla-backed startup in SF.

I'm inspired by the Whole Earth Catalog.
